June Volunteer of the Month: Jamie E.

May 23, 2017

How long have you been at the Q and why did you decide to start volunteering there?

I’ve been volunteering with QMUNITY since August 2015, almost 2 years now. I think it’s important to give back to my community by volunteering, and I always heard good things about QMUNITY. So when I moved to Vancouver, volunteering here was a no-brainer.

Tell us about an amazing moment you’ve experienced at QMUNITY?

There isn’t one amazing moment that stands out for me, since all my time at QMUNITY has been amazing. The people I work with are fabulous of course. And every time I have someone contact me at the IRS desk and I can help them, even in a small way, that feels pretty amazing.

Where would you like to spend a dream vacation?

My dream vacation would be Mexico. I haven’t been there in 10 years, so I’d love to spend time with all my family there, see the pyramids, enjoy the food, and of course the beach.

Name a band to provide the soundtrack of your life?

I’d have to say Tegan and Sara. They have a knack for writing songs that resonate with me.

What’s your favourite animal, and why?

My favourite animal is the tiger because I love cats, and tigers are just giant, beautiful, deadly cats.

If you could have one wish, what would it be?

My one wish is that QMUNITY becomes unnecessary. I wish the LGBTQ+ community wasn’t so badly in need of the services we provide. Hopefully, one day I’ll get my wish.

You won a million dollars! Where does the money go?

I know it’s a very boring answer, but if I won a million dollars, it would all go toward ensuring my family is taken care of in the future; my parents’ debts and retirements and my younger sisters’ educations.

What’s your favourite way to spend a day in Vancouver?

My favourite way to spend a day in Vancouver is up in the mountains, hiking or skiing.
