After four decades(!!!) the dream of a purpose-built facility for QMUNITY is finally becoming a reality. In December 2019, the City of Vancouver posted notice of an application for re-zoning of the city-owned site at the northeast corner of Burrard and Davie. There is a payday loan company on that corner now.

The building will include 139 units of social housing, on 15 floors, to be managed by the McLaren Housing Society. Q’s space includes the ground floor corner and the entire second floor, connected by a dedicated elevator and staircase. Construction is expected to start within the year, with occupancy likely in early 2023.

We participated in the re-zoning open house and are now preparing to plan the interior of our space, updating the general approach of the design consultations held a few years ago. We will post progress reports as the development process unfolds in the months ahead.

QMUNITY will be hosting a series of dialogue sessions with program attendees and community members to make sure that the future building’s plans reflect our communities’ needs and priorities, with a main focus on accessibility in the spaces that QMUNITY will occupy of the main building.
