COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS Update

March 16, 2020

We are taking precautions to deal with COVID-19 as advised by the health authorities. If you are coming to Q, you will see numerous signs advising you about hygiene (Wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands!), and what to do if you show any signs of illness (go home, self-isolate, contact 811, follow their instructions, let us know if you need our help). We have implemented enhanced cleaning measures. We have established a protocol for staff to work from home at the first indication of illness and are working with our Union to ensure everyone’s safety and well-being.

Check back for further announcements. We are thankful to share the office with the Bute Street Clinic, which is operated by the BC Centre for Disease Control, and which gives us access to the best and fastest possible advice – and we will continue to follow their guidance. While safety for everyone is our overwhelming concern, we will do our best to bring services and supports back to operation in the coming weeks and months.

We have been monitoring a great deal of news and advice about this virus. The two most powerful messages so far are:
1. Do not think so much about how you might catch the virus. Think instead that if you have already picked it up, how do you ensure you do not pass it on.
2. Think about how we can support and assist one another.
We have a special responsibility to those whose health conditions and/or age makes them more vulnerable. Please act carefully!
