QMUNITY adopts shared leadership model, appoints new Co-Executive Directors
QMUNITY is BC’s queer, trans, and Two-Spirit resource centre, working to improve queer, trans, and Two-Spirit lives through direct services, connection and leadership. QMUNITY is excited to announce a new phase in the organization’s growth and evolution through the adoption of a co-leadership model, with two Co-Executive Directors sharing leadership and decision-making responsibilities under a Board of Directors and the support of 10 part-time and full-time staff.
Anoop Gill joins QMUNITY as the Co-Executive Director, Programs & Services. Having spent the last 7 years at AIDS Vancouver, Anoop joins the QMUNITY team to provide strategic leadership and oversight of community-based programming and social services, including our Youth, Seniors, Counselling and Volunteer programs. In the years ahead, QMUNITY will seek to expand its social services mandate by growing our counselling program and supporting our efforts to provide services and support to LGBTQ2SAI+ folk across British Columbia.

Joel Harnest has been appointed as the Co-Executive Director, Engagement & Operations. Joel joined QMUNITY in 2015 and has worked extensively in community engagement, facilitation, education and growing a strong provincial network of LGBTQ2SAI+ service providers and allies. Under Joel’s leadership, QMUNITY will continue to grow its fee-for-service portfolio, including custom-designed educational workshops, community engagements, consultation services, professional development opportunities and timely commentary on issues of significance to the LGBTQ2SAI+ communities.

The addition of these strong leaders into the Co-Executive Director roles at QMUNITY ensures that QMUNITY will continue and strengthen their services in supporting British Columbia’s LGBTQ2SAI+ communities, while setting QMUNITY up to grow into a new building slated for completion in 2024. Recently announced by the City of Vancouver and QMUNITY, the new community hub will be a 14,000 square foot, custom-built centre located at the corner of Davie and Burrard.
QMUNITY is a vital part of the LGBTQ2SAI+ community. We look forward to collaboration with our community partners, members, board, staff and volunteers in creating safer spaces to share our stories.
