A big fat thank you and congrats to one of our most amazing volunteers, Luis H! Luis is the Volunteer of the Month for April 2016.

Luis has been volunteering with us for over a year, showing up to all of our special events, helping us in painting the office, supporting the Communication Department with his amazing marketing skills, and providing support to the LGBTQ community in BC through his role at the Information and Referral Desk.

So, Luis, what brought you to QMUNITY?

A year ago I had just arrived in Vancouver and I was eager to explore everything. I found QMUNITY online and decided to pay them a visit. That, and the promise of laughs and cookies while volunteering, which nowadays they keep delivering, brought me here.

And what’s your favourite thing about working at QMUNITY?

The feeling of belonging! Every week I wait for my shift at the Q to start, and see all the great folks that work here.

In this space I am free, I am me, and that is pretty awesome, to have a place where you feel that, and on top of that you get the chance to help to build a world that looks more like one you’ve dreamed of. That’s what makes this place one of my favourites ever.

What song best represents YOU?

What a hard question! I can think of so many, but right now I believe the most appropriate will be Beautiful by Christina Aguilera.

If you were an animal, what animal would you be and why?

A ferret. They are cute and small, just like me! Haha, they are also very curious, playful and a bit anxious, again, just like me.

What’s your dream vacation?

Unknown destination, no plan, just the good will of discovery makes every vacation an adventure worth living.

If you won $10,000 what would you do?

Probably save some for future plans, but definitely buy lots of really good chocolates.

Message from Staff: Luis, your ability to problem solve efficiently and creatively, your cheerful disposition, and your commitment to support LGBTQ communities make it a total pleasure to work with you. Thank you for the many hours you’ve given to this organization—it has not gone unnoticed (obviously)! ¡Muy orgullosa de llamarte mi paisano!
