June 12th is a date we must not forget.

The deadly display of hate in Orlando shook our community to the core. QMUNITY mourns the 49 lives lost, stands with everyone who has been and will continue to be affected by this tragedy in years to come, and remains firmly committed to create and offer safe/r spaces for all LGBTQ2S community members to live and love fully without fear.

Such an appalling and direct attack on LGBTQ2S communities impacts every one of us. We are not only heartbroken, but also questioning—yet again—our safety as LGBTQ2S people.

As we mourn and process this devastating event and are painfully reminded of the critical importance of safe/r spaces, QMUNITY is offering free meeting space for community members looking to come together and support each other. We also invite everyone to engage in self-care practices and to reach out for support. QMUNITY continues to offer free counselling, information and referrals, and youth support through our two weekly drop-ins, with a focus on processing the profound impact this event will have on all of us. Now more than ever, QMUNITY stands with all LGBTQ muslims who might experience backlash following this heinous act. We will continue to actively condemn homophobia, racism, Islamophobia, and xenophobia and create inclusive spaces where everyone can thrive.

We want to pass a message of solidarity on to you—know we are a resilient community. Know we are here for each other. Know we will continue working to fight hate with love.

And as we gear up for Pride season, know that we are more motivated than ever to proudly celebrate our LGBTQ2S lives, families and communities.
